Route building service for commercial freight transport selected using Proof of Concept approach
Goal
To check what mapping service is more efficient in terms of building routes and navigation for auto trucks. The key requirements of the service cover building exact routes to calculate correctly the transpоrtation costs and the justified price.
Obstacle
The app shall build the routes taking into account the restriction signs related to the truck transport: driveway, weight, height, width, time.
Solution
We developed a test rig to check several services of cartography. The rig allowed the side-by-side comparison of the routes built using Google Maps, HERE.maps, and Yandex.Maps. taking into account the corresponding restrictions specific for truck transport.
We ranked the results by a number of traffic violations for the truck transport within the route built. We made a report on the price of each service and recommended the most efficient service for the task set.
To increase the drivers’ loyalty we implemented Here.maps for auto truck navigation and building accurate routes directly in the app.
