Data infrastructure optimized and expenses decreased by $100k per year
Goal
To reduce expenses for data storing and processing:
- to conduct data infrastructure audit;
- to implement improvements.
Obstacle
In the course of the project work, it was extremely important to avoid any errors and data failures, since the data were involved in other business processes of the company.
Solution
We audited the project data accumulated and found out that 70% of them were not used. By agreement with the stakeholders, we discarded the invalid data and archived the potentially useful information. As a result, the amount of data that needs to be stored has become 30 times less.
Further, we increased the consistency of the connected data processes and optimized the logic in such a way as to maintain the same accuracy with fewer computational operations and requests to the data sources. Due to this, we have reduced the load on the server and the cost of services for storing and processing the data has decreased 3 times.
